CCA works to secure and maintain access for the Canadian beef industry that is as favourable or better than the access enjoyed by other beef exporting countries. CCA also works to prevent exposure to unfair competition or dumping in the Canadian market, maintain access to vital imported production inputs and eliminate programs, measures and subsidies around the world that distort trade.

Work carried out under the foreign trade banner includes efforts to remove tariff barriers and non-scientifically justified technical barriers for Canadian cattle and beef. CCA uses a science-based approach to trade and requests that all trading partners also adhere to the guidelines established by global authorities, including the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the Codex Alimentarius Commission (Codex), and the World Trade Organization (WTO). In addition, the CCA collaborates with international stakeholders such as the International Meat Secretariat (IMS), Global Roundtable for Sustainable Beef (GRSB), International Beef Alliance (IBA), and the Global Agenda towards Sustainable Livestock to ensure Canada’s place in the global beef market.
